Since the sync is rather fragile currently, as Martin said, those
usually work. I just wiped a db and synced from scratch without a
problem, so I'm not able to reproduce your issue.

We're planning to have some decent changes by the end of the weekend,
is that production that you need immediately, or can it wait a day or
two?
